Hyperbaric Oxygen's Role in Chronic Wounds Keeps Growing
Recent reviews in surgical and chronic wound care show that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) supports the healing process by increasing tissue oxygenation. In diabetic foot wounds, venous leg ulcers, burns and radiation-induced tissue damage, HBOT has been reported to improve wound closure rates and reduce infection risk.
A study published in 2025 found that HBOT combined with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) significantly increased healing speed compared to NPWT alone. In reconstructive surgery, HBOT is reported to support tissue and graft survival and promote new blood vessel formation.
